Embracing My Adoption
Dec 3rd, 2007 by northbaptist
To communicate with His people, God often uses word pictures. That is, God will use powerful illustrations to help us understand His message. This week, David Whiting explores salvation through God’s use of the word picture of “adoption”. Adoption implies a deliberate choice; when a person is adopted, it is only through careful consideration and planning. Very often, the costs to adopt are huge - in our culture a couple can expect an adoption to cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. Therefore, when we become adopted into God’s family it is clearly by His choice, by His design, for His pleasure and to His glory. There is even mystery in this adoption - He has chosen us, not because we are more worthy than another, but because He loved us and chose us before we were born, before time even began. The truth is that some things are loved because they are worthy; other things are worthy because they are loved.
